FAQs about making dinner with a crock pot
What should you not put in a crockpot?
Here are my top three things not to put in a crockpot:
- Dairy. If your recipe calls for dairy to be added, be sure to follow the recipes instructions carefully.
- Cousous. Couscous is one of those dishes that cooks so quickly, you can make it right before you serve your meal.
- Rice. It’s best made on the stove top or in a rice cooker – or even your Instant Pot.
Is it OK to open a crockpot while cooking?
It’s best to avoid opening your crockpot while it is cooking, but if you must add more ingredients (such as water or broth), be sure that the lid doesn’t sit off of the cooker for too long and let all of the heat out.
Can I use a slow cooker liner in my crockpot?
Yes! If you want to make clean up even easier, you can use a slow cooker liner.
What do I need to be able to cook in my crockpot?
All you really need is your ingredients and your cooking vessel (the crockpot itself). However, if you want to brown meats or sauté vegetables prior, it’s recommended that you use either a traditional pan or skillet to do so (and then transfer into your crockpot).
Should you lock the lid on a crockpot while cooking?
No, do not lock or latch the lid on your crockpot while cooking.
What should I do with my slow cooker when I am done using it?
Once dinner has been cooked and eaten, be sure to wash out any leftover food from inside before putting it away. If you keep your crockpot where it’s easily accessible, you’ll be more likely to use it on a regular basis.
