James and Hannah’s Wedding

On April 17, 2016 my son married his precious bride, Hannah Claire. {I’m calling her Hannah Claire because my 15 year old daughter’s name is also Hannah and it can get a little confusing!)

The wedding was the loveliest wedding I have ever attended. Everything was just perfect. My daughter Emily played the music for the wedding on her classical guitar while my Hannah helped turn the pages. My daughter Laura was the flower girl. The decorations were simple and just perfect.

Hannah Claire wore a vintage wedding dress from the 1960’s that she found on Etsy.com. The reception was held at a local park where she had games like corn hole set up and a playground and water fountain nearby for the kids to play. They served a delicious brunch for the meal!

I wish I had picture of everything. I do have a lot of picture from after the wedding that I took on my camera – I’ll share a few here. And I’m still anxiously awaiting to see the photos that the photographer took!

Before the wedding, Hannah Claire wrote me the sweetest note, thanking me for raising James. It was heartfelt and so special to me! She is just everything a mom could want in a daughter-in-law. I have a new daughter and I’m so thankful. She is precious! I wish I could put into words how much she means to me.

It’s hard letting go of your kids, but oh the joy in seeing them grow into adults and embarking on their own journey. I’m very blessed that James and Hannah Claire moved into a little house right down the street from me. I know how hard it was for her mother and father to say good-bye to their little girl all grown up. My own girls will soon be looking at starting their own lives apart from us and it’s such a bittersweet thing.

Bittersweet.

Motherhood is every bit bittersweet. You raise your kids with the intention of letting them go. And it hurts. And yet it’s a happy thing!

I pray the Lord’s blessing upon their new marriage. I long for them to have a perfect life together, joy and happiness always. Of course, in this life there will be sorrow, but I hope and pray that even during the hard times that they will hold each other tight and keep God in the center of their marriage. I know they’ve had a good start and are well prepared. I’m so thankful to God!

  1. It was a wonderful and joyful day. We are so blessed to have James (and all his family) joined to ours. Your prayer for them is perfect.
(*The dress is from the 50’s. The pearls were her paternal grandmother’s)

  2. My husband and I had the same cake topper for our wedding 5 years ago. Got to love etsy for finding sweet hand made crafts. The best peice of advice my husband and I got when we were first married was to love each other the way God loves us. Another was to never speak badly to others about your spouse it makes you resentful. I make sure to tell people what a wonderful husband and father he is. It reminds me how blessed I am to have him. I find that the kinder and more unconditional love I show to him , the kinder he is to me. Love begets love. God has been good to me and blessed me with a wonderful man . I hope I tell my husband this often enough!
