The Home Reset Checklist: Free Printable

After a summer full of travel and a full family life of kids and grandkids over at the house every day, my house needed some real TLC. Clutter had collected in the dining room – well, basically every room. Summers around here are so full of life that it’s easy to find that the little piles creep up on you before you even realize.

So, if your house looks anything like mine right now, here’s the good news — you don’t need a deep clean this week. You need a home reset checklist. One page, one pass through the house, and enough order back in your corner to breathe again.

Reset, not deep clean

Deep cleaning is baseboards and mattresses and windows washed inside and out. It’s good work, necessary work even, but it’s not what a tired-out-from-summer house needs first.

What your house needs right now is a simple reset. Just enough of a reset that you can feel like yourself again. Not perfect. Not the kind of clean you’d photograph for Instagram. Just reset. That’s the whole idea behind this Home Reset Checklist. Every room gets a short list — short enough you could actually finish it.

How to Use the Home Reset Checklist

Print it and set it on your counter, tape it to your fridge, add it to your household notebook, or even just pull it up on your phone and work room by room. You don’t have to do the whole thing in a day, and you don’t have to do it in order. Start with whichever room is bothering you the most, or whichever one everybody walks through first — for most of us, that’s the kitchen or the entryway.

A few things before you start:

#1 Skip whatever isn’t bothering you. This is a menu, not a mandate.

#2 Set a timer if you’re prone to falling down an organizing rabbit hole (I am — ask my husband). Fifteen minutes per room keeps this a reset instead of a renovation.

#3 Don’t buy a single organizing bin or basket before you’re finished. Most clutter needs a decision, not a storage solution. And if clutter is really bad, we’ll be doing a 6-week challenge in October, so get ready!

What’s on the checklist?

Eight areas of a typical home — kitchen, living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, entryway, laundry, kids’ spaces, and a catch-all “one more thing” section for whatever’s been nagging at you that doesn’t fit anywhere else.

Every section is short on purpose. This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list that wears you out. I wanted this to be easy enough you can finish it! So, grab your copy below and tell me in the comments which room you’re tackling first.

Action Steps to Take Today:

  1. Download the Home Reset Checklist below
  2. Pick the one room bothering you most
  3. Set a fifteen-minute timer and work through just that section
  4. Cross it off, then decide if today’s the day for another room or if tomorrow will do
  5. Keep the list somewhere visible until every room’s been touched
