From Chaos to Calm: Day 60
Scripture Memory: “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11 ESV
How often do you have fun together as a family? In our house, games are a regular activity – in fact game nights are very often going on several nights a week. Talk about fun! While we are always very busy, night time is usually family time.
I want to encourage you to have fun with your children. Children of all ages delight in Mommy playing with them! Don’t look at it as “boring.” Years from now you will wish you had these days back.

Board games are fun – and if you look in your Bible book store you will find several games that teach about the Bible while you play. But you don’t always have to play a Bible game for the time to be meaningful.
I remember when I was a little girl. My favorite game was Candy Land! My mom, bless her heart, played that game with me – over and over and over again!
Family Game Night
Games can become part of the tradition of your family. In our house games like Rook, Phase 10, UNO, Dutch Blitz, Apples to Apples, Risk, Milbournes, and Dominoes are regularly played {along with others}, but during the holidays Rook becomes the obsession! From the youngest players (age10) to the oldest (age 85) everyone wants in on the action.
Laughter and friendly competition are good for the soul of the family. It bonds you together like glue.

Do you laugh with your children? Find a reason to laugh and giggle today. And thank God that you have family whom you can play with, because you never know what tomorrow will bring.
In September 2006, our family was devastated when my step-daughter’s precious little two year old boy drowned. We had always assumed that there would be plenty of time to be together. Living far away, it was always difficult to get together. But we never thought we wouldn’t have a tomorrow together. Enjoy these days. Don’t take them for granted.
In your prayer journal today, I want you to write down some special memories that you have of fun time with your family. Write down your favorite traditions and maybe a few traditions you would like to start. Ask God to bless your family and keep them safe. And then make a commitment to spend time with them as much as possible just having fun.
I wanted to see the plugin so I came to check out your blog. But I really LOVE this post! My family loves a good game night. In fact, my husband and I just cancelled our cable so we could play more games instead of watch TV all night.

Years ago when the kids were little our main games were Scrabble and Gin Rummy. Every once in awhile the whole family would get together and play some poker – no betting was allowed. We also sometimes did games like Mousetrap, Uno, Aggravation, Trivial Pursuit, Win, Lose or Draw and the good old standby – Monopoly. Then as the kids grew up (teenagers, they came out with computer games for Attari and Commodore 64 which had some fun games on it like Mario, Burger Time and tennis.
Today, as it is basically my husband and I, we like to get on the computer and play hidden object and word games together. He’s not good at typing, so I man the keyboard and mouse and he helps get the hidden objects and words.
Kris, those are some fun games – we’ve enjoyed a number of them over the years, too! We play Scrabble a lot – and Upwords. My husband and I used to play Gin Rummy when we were dating a lot. UNO is a classic – even young kids love UNO. 🙂

Our favorite family game is Quelf. We laugh ourselves silly whenever we play. It’s great for older kids, teens and adults. I have played it on a girls night and we had to have “potty timeout” rule (everyone is a mom) so when we got to laughing no one would have an “accident”. LOVE IT.
