My Goals for February 2025 + Journal
I’ve been traveling for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I drove down to Florida to visit with my kids there (I have a son and daughter living there with their families) and then I made my way up to the Atlanta, Georgia area to visit my parents for a week. It was such a sweet time with my loved ones!
I started off my trip visiting my son James and his sweet family. My daughter Emily lives near James with her husband and I got to see her almost everyday I was there too! We did some fun things including celebrating James’ little ones’ birthdays!
It was a sweet ending to January and a great first week of February.
A fresh month always feels like a chance to pause and refocus. January was about settling into the rhythms of the new year, but February feels like the time to take small, meaningful steps toward the goals I set for 2025.
My Goals for February 2025
Some of these are simple joys, while others are quiet commitments to myself—things that bring a sense of home, connection, and purpose.
1. Make a Set of Handmade Crochet Dish Cloths
I’ve been feeling lately like I need to pick up a few new hobbies. And while I’m not new to crochet (neither am I an expert), I haven’t made crochet dishcloths in a number of years. I want to carve out time to crochet a set of several dishcloths. I’m planning to use this free printable crochet dish cloth pattern here.
2. Review My 2025 Goals and Do the Work
At the beginning of the year, I set goals for 2025 that reflect the kind of life I want to cultivate—things that nourish my home, my relationships, and my personal growth. February is a good time to check in with those goals, make adjustments, and most importantly, follow through. I’ve done pretty well, but I know being intentional is key and reviewing my goals regularly will help me do that.
3. Bake at Least One Dessert a Week
Baking has always been a way to slow down and create something from scratch. I love being in the kitchen! I make homemade desserts from time to time, but I thought it would be fun to make new (and old) dessert recipes this month and make a dessert each week. It’s a goal I want to carry with me through the year as much as possible, whether it’s a batch of cookies, a simple cake, or something new from an old cookbook.

4. Bake One Sourdough Loaf a Week
There’s nothing quite like the process of making sourdough—the waiting, the tending, the satisfaction of pulling a golden, crusty loaf out of the oven. I’ve been making sourdough bread off and on for over 20 years and I love eating homemade bread! I want to get into a steady habit of baking a loaf each week and hopefully get to the point where I’m milling my own grains.
When my kids were growing up I made most of the bread we ate from scratch and I had two baking days – Sundays and Thursdays. This meant we always had wonderful homemade bread to eat all week long!
5. Visit My Mom and Dad
Time with family is always precious, and I don’t want busyness to get in the way of what matters most. I actually did this the first week of February (we’re going into the second week of February) and it was such a sweet time.
My mom and I enjoy thrifting and antiquing in the afternoons and cooking delicious but simple from scratch meals. My dad is just the sweetest and he even sent me out with my mom to go buy new shoes and clothes. 🙂 I had the best time just hanging out with him and talking. Oh and I got to spend some time with my brother too which was really nice! It was so hard to say goodbye to them yesterday!
6. Read and Finish At Least One Book from My List
I have a growing list of books I want to read this year, but I know how easy it is to let time slip away without finishing one. In February, my goal is to complete at least one book from my list—something that enriches my mind or simply brings joy.
I’m currently reading:
- The Art of the Handwritten Note by Margaret Shepherd (it’s our book of the month)
- A Love Letter to Suburbia: How to Restore the American Village by Diane Alisa Tuft
7. Journal Every Night
I’ve always found comfort in writing things down. I’m a writer at heart. But, one of my great regrets is being inconsistent with keeping a journal. So last month I started journaling and I’ve been pretty consistent so far! This month, I want to make journaling a nightly habit, even if it’s just a few sentences, as a way to reflect and be present.
What made the difference for me this time or at least I think it will make a long term difference – is that I gave myself permission to just write in a notebook. I write in notebooks all the time. I always have a notebook with me. I decided I didn’t have to write in a beautiful leather bound journal and that journaling didn’t have to look a certain way.
Giving myself permission to let journaling be more casual has helped me write more—capturing small moments, sweet memories from the past, current thoughts, creative ideas and inspiration, notes, and even prayers at the end of the day. Basically anything I feel like writing down in there.
8. Plant Lily and Tulip Bulbs
Yes it’s still winter, but there are things to do in the garden if you want blooms later. My yard is so beautiful in the spring with sooo many blooms (picture of some of my daffodils below). I want to plant even more bulbs so we can enjoy even more flowers.
Now is the time to plant bulbs that will bring color and beauty in the months to come. There’s something hopeful about tucking them into the soil, knowing that in time, they’ll bloom. Let me know what you’re planting!

February is a short month – only 28 days, but there’s still plenty of time to fill it with meaningful, simple things. You know it only takes 28 days to create a new habit! These goals aren’t about perfection—they’re about being present, making space for creativity, and nurturing what matters to me the most.
Hi Melissa! My goals, for the year, include being intentional, taking things slow and enjoying the little things, along the way, to be still and listen to the Lord. Maybe, I can be less anxious about things and not be so overwhelmed with life. I wish you the best, with your goals.
Hi Sharon! Those are good goals! Do you have any tricks for slowing down and being intentional?
