If you enjoy browsing vintage treasures and exploring new-to-you shops like I do, there’s a little gem in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee, that you’ll want to add to your list: Sentimental Journey Antiques.
This newly opened shop sits on Main Street and offers three full floors of antique charm. It’s owned by the same folks behind The Village Antiques and Home Décor Mall—one of the most well-loved antique spots in the area – and definitely my favorite vintage mall to shop at!
Whether you’re a seasoned thrifter or just love to poke around a vintage shop, this place was a lot of fun and definitely worth a visit.
If you’re decorating with intention and love to find just-the-right-piece, you’ll appreciate the variety here. There’s a good balance of practical items and pretty collectibles. They even had booths with new items and handmade things. Lots of variety!

I found a number of pieces that were a good deal. One of my favorites was a 22-piece vintage dish set—complete with teacups, fruit bowls, and a dainty little platter—was marked down from $20.00 to just $10.00! (see photo below) It was such a good price!
It would make a lovely gift or be a sweet addition to any vintage kitchen. I almost brought it home and next time in the shop I’ll probably check to see if it’s sold.
But the one thing I found that I wanted soooo bad and couldn’t afford was a small red book from 1930: How to Play Rook.
For anyone who grew up playing Rook at family get-togethers, this find tugged at my heartstrings. In our family, Rook has been our go-to card game for over 25 years, and we play it at every family gathering or holiday.
This book – The Rook Book – was a vintage strategy guide, and in beautiful condition. Sadly, they had it priced at $115.00. I looked it up after I got home and apparently it really is a rare and nostalgic book—likely hard to come by and possibly one-of-a-kind. So that was a bummer.
I also found a beautiful and sturdy cane-bottom chair for $20.00. It was such a good deal! It would have made the perfect addition to my dressing room and I really thought about bringing it home with me. I’ve been using a folding chair in my dressing room for the last two decades and I kind of regret not bringing this one home with me. I even sat in it to see how sturdy it was and it seemed like a good chair.
All in all, only one small piece made its way home—a petite stoneware crock for $8.99. One of my viewers on YouTube told me it is actually a salt crock, which I just love!
Imperfect in just the right way, it’s the kind of item that works in any room. Whether used to hold a houseplant, wooden spoons, or simply placed on a shelf, a neutral crock like this adds warmth and old-world charm. Crocks can be so expensive, and I felt like this one was a good price.
There’s something peaceful about a quiet afternoon spent browsing antique shops. It’s definitely one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon!
So if you’re in the Johnson City area—or just passing through—this shop is worth a stop. You never know what you’ll find, but chances are, you’ll leave inspired

Hi guys! I got a tip about a brand new antique store in Johnson City, Tennessee… so guess where we’re going?
We’re heading to Sentimental Journey Antiques in downtown. I think I’m on Main Street right now. When I was at the antique mall in Greenville—yeah, in the last video—the ladies at checkout told me about this new store. They said it’s owned by the same folks that run The Village Antiques and Home Decor Mall in Johnson City, which is the one I shop at most often because it’s the closest to me.
Anyway, they said they’d opened a new location downtown, so I thought we’d pop in and see what it’s like. Hopefully it’s fun—I’m sure it will be!

Okay, so I just finished up at Sentimental Journey. It was a pretty big store—two floors. I thought they said it had three, but unless I missed a second set of stairs, I only found two.
Oh my goodness—there were some things in there I wanted so badly but just couldn’t justify the price. There was a basket—exactly what I’ve been looking for! Kind of long and rectangular. I’ve been wanting one for my dining room table to put floral arrangements in, and this one was perfect. But it was $25. And while I might pay that for a basket… usually I don’t. It’s been a long time since I spent that much on a basket. I really loved it, but I decided to wait.
Then there was this little set of dishes—22 pieces! It had five teacups, a little oval platter, fruit bowls, and I think saucers to match. It was marked down from $20 to $10. Such a good deal. I almost got it! It was sweet, but again… not something I really needed. I didn’t go in there looking for dishes. I’m still keeping an eye out for more blue and white ones to add to my collection. I even thought about gifting that set—it would’ve made a really sweet present. But I decided to wait. Who knows, maybe it’ll still be there next week… although at $10, maybe not.
And then—oh my goodness—the one thing I really wanted. I even texted my husband about it. There was this little red book called something like How to Play Rook, from 1930. It was in great condition, and I’m guessing it was a strategy book. I’ve mentioned before that our family loves playing Rook—it’s been a tradition for years. It’s one of the main games we play when we all get together.
Anyway, I’ve never seen a book like that. It was $115. I’m guessing it’s rare. If I had $100 to just blow, that book would’ve come home with me and gone straight on the game shelf in our family room. But I just couldn’t justify it. Still, I wanted it so bad!
There was also this little chair with a cane bottom. It was only $20, and I almost brought it home. I’ve been looking for a chair for my dressing room—there’s a built-in dressing table in there that came with the house. We’ve lived here over 22 years, and I’ve never had a proper chair for it. I use a folding chair. I’ve been looking, but haven’t found the right one. This one was sweet and sturdy, and I did like it… I might regret not grabbing it, honestly. But I also want to repaint that room, and I’m kind of in the middle of trying to reinvent my bedroom, so I just wasn’t sure.
Anyway, let me show you the one thing I did bring home! With tax, I spent $9.87.
I got this little crock. It’s not very big, has some imperfections, but it was $8.99 and I thought that was a reasonable price. Crocs can be so expensive, especially the bigger ones. This one was small, so I felt good about it. I’m probably going to put a houseplant in it. You can never go wrong with a good crock, right?
The bottom is kind of bowl-shaped on the inside even though it sits flat—thought that was different. Not sure how old it is, but it’s in fairly good shape. No real cracks—there’s a little one inside, but it doesn’t go all the way through. I like it, and I think it’ll look good in pretty much any room with a little greenery.
So that was my trip to Sentimental Journey in Johnson City! I’m heading home now and honestly, I’m getting really hungry.
Thanks so much for watching! If you haven’t already, please hit that like button and subscribe. I’ve been trying to be more consistent, and I think I’ve been doing pretty well this month—I’m proud of myself. Things have finally slowed down enough that I can make more videos.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but it hit me the other day—there’s that movie Four Weddings and a Funeral? Well, last year we had two weddings—two of our daughters got married—and then my brother-in-law passed away. So literally, two weddings and a funeral. It was a crazy year. And it’s taken me some time to kind of recover from all of that. There were a lot of really good things, but also some really hard things.
This summer’s been slower—even though it’s still busy, it’s not as busy as usual. And I’ve been enjoying making these videos. I hope you’ve been enjoying watching them! I’m looking forward to the next one. I’ll see you then—bye!
