4 Tips for Making Hard-Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

#1: I used a 6-quart Instant Pot. You may need to decrease or increase the number of eggs if you have a smaller or larger instant pot.

#2: The eggs do not need to be submerged in water. It just has to be halfway up the eggs.

#3: An ice bath is one of the most effective methods to ensure that the eggs peel readily after cooking. However, a teaspoon of baking soda added to the cooking water may also help.

#4: Fresh eggs do not peel well, regardless of how you prepare them.

How to Store Leftover Boiled Eggs

Store leftover boiled eggs in a covered container inside the refrigerator for up to one week. If the egg has an unpleasant odor or is slimy or chalky, it’s time to dispose of it. Eating rotten eggs can make you ill and would be no fun to taste I’m sure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do boiled eggs last?

Hard-boiled eggs will last about a week in your refrigerator. You can store them peeled or unpeeled in a covered container.

How can you tell if a hard-boiled egg is bad?

A hard-boiled egg that is bad will generally smell really foul and may look discolored, slimy, or have a chalky appearance.

Is it safe to eat boiled eggs left out overnight?

You should refrigerate hard-boiled eggs within two hours of cooking to maintain freshness.

Why do hard-boiled eggs turn green?

The green ring surrounding a hard-boiled egg’s yolk is caused by the hydrogen in the egg white combining with the sulfur in the yolk. This happens when you overcook your hard-boiled eggs.

Submerging your boiled eggs in ice water immediately after cooking can help reduce the chance of a green ring as does limiting the cooking time for your boiled eggs to ten minutes or less.
