A Calm & Organized Christmas: Free Holiday Planner for Homemakers

The holidays are right around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’re dreaming of a season that feels calm and meaningful instead of rushed and overwhelming. What if this could be the year you feel prepared, peaceful, and actually able to enjoy it?

The holidays can be joyful… but they can also feel overwhelming when you’re trying to juggle gift lists, decorating, cooking, school and church events, hosting, and the everyday work of home.

What if this year could feel different—less chaos, more peace? What if instead of reaching December 26th wondering where the month went, you could look back and remember quiet evenings, laughter, and moments that mattered?

That’s exactly why I created this free Holiday Planner for you.

Every year I tell myself that I’ll start early, that I’ll be ahead on shopping and baking, and that I’ll have time to slow down and savor the season. But unless I’m intentional and write things down, December can slip through my fingers. And to be honest I already feel behind. I’ve been traveling the last few weeks and had so much going on the last two months. I usually get this planner out at the end of October but between my step-daughter suddenly passing away at the beginning of October and multiple trips to visit with family, I’ve only been home for a few days here and there. It’s been a lot.

So, back to the planner. I want you to remember that planning isn’t about being rigid or perfect—it’s about giving yourself a path to walk through the season with margin and intention. When you prepare ahead, everything feels lighter and more enjoyable.

My Goals for this Holiday Season

We have a large family and this year we’ll have 14-15 people for Christmas. Not everyone is able to come this year – my kids are grown and married, so they have other families that I have to share them with haha. But for us, Christmas has always been a festive, two affair where all the adult kids come home and stays for two weeks. We play games, eat lots of food, talk and laugh a lot, and watch Christmas movies. I also try to plan fun activities so we can make lots of memories along the way.

  • deep clean the house
  • bake a lot of our traditional goodies beforehand and put in the freezer
  • plan out holiday crafts for the family to do together including ornament, paper chains, and more
  • decorate each room for the season
  • declutter old holiday decor as I decorate

I also take everyone’s food requests and cooking for 15 or more people every day for two weeks is a lot. I try to make sure that each meal features different requests from different family members so everyone gets their favorites throughout the holiday.

Why a Holiday Planner Makes Such a Difference

When everything lives in your head—gifts to buy, menus to plan, schedules to keep straight—it’s easy to feel scattered and behind. A holiday planner frees your mind from carrying all of those details and gives you clarity and confidence as you move through each week.

It helps you reduce stress, stay organized, and avoid overspending, and it prevents last-minute scrambling and impulse decisions. Most importantly, it makes room for rest and traditions that matter instead of rushing through tasks just to get them done.

You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect Christmas. You need a peaceful one that reflects your values and your family’s needs.

What’s Included in the Free Holiday Planner

This planner includes everything you need to organize the season from start to finish. Here’s a closer look at the sections inside and how they can support you throughout the month.

Seasonal & Weekly Planning Pages

Use the monthly and weekly sheets to map out activities, church events, kids’ programs, shopping days, and gatherings. Seeing everything in one place helps you avoid overscheduling and gives you space to add rest days, baking days, and evenings at home.

Gift Planning & Budgeting

These pages help you plan gift ideas, track what you’ve purchased, record prices, mark what’s wrapped, and stay on budget. You’ll also find a space for stocking stuffers, handmade gifts, and charitable giving. No more guessing—or forgetting what you bought and where you put it.

Holiday Meal Planning & Grocery Lists

Use these pages to organize meals for hosting, Christmas dinner, potlucks, and holiday baking. When your menus are planned and ingredients are listed, you can shop confidently and avoid store trips in the busiest weeks of the year.

Christmas Baking Planner

Perfect for cookie exchanges, homemade gifts, and family baking traditions. Track recipes, baking schedules, storage instructions, and packaging ideas. If you like to bake ahead and freeze items, this section is especially helpful.

Holiday Countdown Checklist

Sometimes the hardest part of the season is remembering the timing of everything. This checklist guides you through when to order gifts, mail cards, decorate, prepare guest rooms, gather pantry staples, and wrap presents. Breaking it down keeps tasks manageable.

Tradition & Memory Pages

Use these pages to record what matters most: the family activities you love and the moments worth repeating. This is a simple way to evaluate what you want to keep, what you want to let go of, and what matters most to your family’s heart.

Decor Planning & Inventory

Plan decorating themes, list items you need to replace, and record where everything is stored so decorating and cleanup are easier next year. This is especially helpful if you tend to forget what you actually have or purchase duplicate pieces.

Notes for Next Year

Before the season ends, jot down what worked well, what overwhelmed you, and what you’d change. You will be so grateful for these notes 11 months from now.

Here’s a look at a few of the pages: (there are 120 pages total)

How to Use the Planner for a Peaceful, Organized Season

You don’t have to fill out every page at once. Start small. Choose one or two pages, and build from there. Turn on a Christmas playlist, light a candle, pour something warm to drink, and make planning part of your seasonal rhythm.

A few ideas to help you get started:

  • Begin with the monthly calendar and map out events and priorities.
  • Do a brain dump on your to-do pages to clear mental clutter.
  • Go ahead and fill out the gift list so you can shop intentionally.
  • Schedule one weekly planning session—Sunday evening works well.
  • Choose three priorities for the season and let everything else be optional.

Print your planner, place it in a binder or folder, and keep it somewhere easy to reach. When you make planning part of your daily or weekly rhythm, December feels calmer and more joyful.

Ideas for a Simpler, Slower Holiday

Just because you can do everything doesn’t mean you should. If your heart is craving slower days and deeper peace, give yourself permission to simplify. Choose a small handful of meaningful traditions. Leave room for quiet evenings. Bake ahead and freeze. Say no when needed. Protect your peace like it matters—because it does.

Your family won’t remember elaborate perfection. They’ll remember how it felt to be together.

As the evenings grow cozy and the twinkle lights begin to glow, remember what we’re celebrating. Christmas is such a special time of family togetherness. It can be easy to get lost in the festivities and the to do lists. So, remember the reason for the season—after all, Jesus is the one who brings peace on earth and peace into our hearts and homes. It’s about slowing down, loving one another well, and cherishing the moments that matter.

You’re doing such an important work in your homes. Your ministry of homemaking matters. And you’re doing better than you think!
