Man of Sorrows Christmas Ornament

Jesus was a man acquainted with grief. Isaiah 53:3-5 

  • Salt Dough
  • Brown food coloring
  • Red food coloring
  • red ribbon

Divide a small amount of dough into four pieces. Color one with the brown food coloring, color another smaller piece with the red, making a pink color, and another smaller piece use the brown to make a lighter brown and leave the other piece white.

Roll a ball of the white and flatten making an oval shape for the face of Jesus. Make a rope of brown for Jesus’ hair, flatten and place around the top and sides of the oval.

Make small ropes of brown to make a mustache and beard and put in place. Add a little ball of pink for the lips and shape in place. Add tiny balls for the eyes. Add a tiny rope of white for the nose. Use a toothpick to shape nose. Add tiny ropes for the eyebrows and shape in place with a toothpick.

Add a rope around the head of tan dough for the crown of thorns. Use a toothpick to create the thorns.


Use a toothpick or straw to make a hole in the top of the head for a ribbon later. Allow to dry.

Cover the ornament in clear nail polish and allow to dry. Add ribbon.
