5 Ways to Enjoy a Romantic Staycation @ AVirtuousWoman.org

In our busy and hectic world, we sometimes need some time away from the kids, pets, bills, and work to focus on our most important relationship. Even though we see our spouse daily, it isn’t always enough.

If time and cash flow don’t allow you to take a trip to a resort somewhere far away, maybe a romantic staycation is your best bet to relaxing and reconnecting as a couple. You’ll need to really focus on each other, so if you’re able, take a few days off work, send the kids to your parents, and ask a friend to pet-sit. This is a time to get flirty and have some fun together!

5 Ways to Enjoy a Romantic Staycation

Here are a few ideas to get you started. Use them or let them inspire you to come up with some of your own:

Go for a Bike Ride in the Country

If you don’t have your own bikes, you can rent them at the local bike shop. Find a winding country road with little traffic or head to a nearby state park. Take breaks along the way to catch your breath and enjoy the scenery. Just experiencing nature together can be exhilarating and relaxing.

Spend the Day at the Beach or a Lake

If you’re within an hour or two of a beach or lake, hop in the car and enjoy a day near the water. Take some beach chairs, towels, an umbrella, and a cooler. Even if you don’t plan on going in, it will be nice to enjoy time together on the shore.

Picnic at the Park

Pack a blanket, a bottle of sparkling cider and a cheese plate or sandwiches. Take along a book of romantic poetry – you can find one at the local library – and take turns reading to each other.  Or talk about something that interests you. Skip conversations about the kids and work.  Keep it romantic.

Visit Local Thrift Shops and Antique Stores

The point of shopping at antique and thrift stores is the possibility of finding something unique that you would have never found at the mall.  You can have some fun conversations about the unusual things you find. Be sure to visit some stores that would normally be too far out of your way.

Go Stargazing

Watching the stars is as romantic when you’re 18 as it is when you’re 80. Google Sky Map can help you identify what constellations you’re looking at, but the experience as much about astronomy as it is about spending a peaceful moment out in the night together.  Escape from the familiar scenery that usually surrounds you. Rare stargazing events like comets or meteor showers make this idea even more romantic. Spread a few blankets out on the ground or in the back of your pick up truck and just enjoy yourselves!
